Obituary for Grant Thompson

Grant Thompson
Grant Thompson

Grant passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in Tweed, Ontario in his 95th year.

He was born in Stockdale, Ontario and is pre-deceased by his parents, Ethel and Roy, and his only brother, Frank.

Grant met his loving wife of 75 years, Rosella (nee Calbury), in Belleville, Ontario. They jointly owned and operated a successful contracting business in Markham, Ontario for many years before initially retiring to Sundridge, Ontario, eventually moving back to Belleville.

Grant loved his three sons, Wayne (Jeanne), Stephen (Anne), and Glenn (Linda). Surviving grandchildren include Laurie (late Renard) and Greg (Lindsay) and his great-grandchildren Isaac, Caleb, Kylie, Samuel, Cole, and Lucy. He is also survived by step-grandchildren Tina, Holly (Rob), and Jamie (Shannon) with step-great-grandchildren Joey, Geoffrey, Jaden, and Kaitlyn.

Grant was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was an honest, steadfast and loyal family man and friend. He loved working outdoors and was a sports fan all his life. And he was never one to pass up good food and drink. He believed in giving back to the communities in which he lived and he was honoured to be a lifetime Lions Club member, holding executive positions in this organization during his time with them.

Special thanks to the staff at the Hastings VON, at the Richmond Retirement Residence, and at AON Moira Place for all their care and compassion in Grant’s final years.

Cremation has already occurred. A family memorial service will be held in the future. If so desired, memorial donations can be made to whatever charity you think is important. It would mean a great deal to him. Arrangements entrusted to the John R. Bush Funeral Home, 80 Highland Avenue, Belleville. 613-968-5588 Online condolences at: www.rushnellfamilyservices.com
