Obituary Listing

Obituaries act as quiet reminders of the finite nature of our lives. Yet, for those who have recently experienced the death of a family member or friend, an obituary means so much more. It is a bittersweet reminder of all we've lost, but it can also help us to remember all we enjoyed while they were alive. If you have recently lost someone you love, we hope that you will accept our condolences.

The McConnell Funeral Home Story

It began May 31, 1971. Stewart McConnell worked at the Wartman Funeral Home in Napanee for twenty years. Furthermore, Stewart and his wife Ruby sold their home in Napanee and purchased the Bush Funeral Home in Tweed.

Jon McConnell (the first born) graduated from Centre Hastings Secondary School and registered in the funeral services education program at Humber College in Toronto. He completed his internship at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home in Kitchener and then relocated to the Russell-Morden Funeral Home in Oakville. James McConnell (second born) also graduated Centre Hastings Secondary School and began to further his education at Humber in the funeral service program. He lived with his brother Jon in Oakville where he stayed to serve his internship.

On May 31, 1978, Stewart refinanced the McConnell Funeral Home in Tweed and purchased the Howden Funeral Home in Marmora which became Jon's new home.

On December 14, 1979, the McConnell family purchased the McKenzie Funeral Home in Madoc; it later became James's new home. Included in that purchase was the Coe Hill Visitation center.

In 1990, the family purchased the Cassidy Funeral Home, in Marmora. It became a part of the McConnell Funeral Home locations.

James II, graduated from Brock University with a business degree and then went to Humber College to join the funeral services education program. He began his internship at the Ward Funeral Home in Brampton and then moved to the McKersie-Kocker Funeral Home in Milton. In April, 2010 he moved home to join the family business.

Through countless hours and many hundreds of miles, the McConnell family had established a service area that extended over a hundred square miles from Roslin to Vennacher, Ivanhoe to Coe Hill, and Springbrook to the Cordova Mines.

For 50 years, the McConnell family had the privilege and honour to serve many families during their time of need and have strived to provide the very finest service and facilities.

The Rushnell Family is excited to bring the McConnell Funeral Home name on board with locations in Tweed, Madoc, and Marmora. Rushnell Family Services will begin a seamless transition starting on December 1, 2021. We would like to thank the McConnell family for entrusting us to continue their legacy.
