Obituary Listing
Obituaries act as quiet reminders of the finite nature of our lives. Yet, for those who have recently experienced the death of a family member or friend, an obituary means so much more. It is a bittersweet reminder of all we've lost, but it can also help us to remember all we enjoyed while they were alive. If you have recently lost someone you love, we hope that you will accept our condolences.
Our Facility
Acquired by Rushnell Funeral Homes in 1974 from the Bush family, the original building was erected in 1879, as a private residence for the late James W. Dunnett, a business merchant and former Mayor of the City of Belleville from 1884 - 1885.
The classic Victorian style of architecture features a winding staircase which ascends to the third floor of the building. Several of the parlor rooms have grand fireplaces made of imported marble.
John R. “Jack” Bush purchased the property at 80 Highland Avenue in the early 1950’s, and after extensive renovations and additions, was opened as a funeral home in 1956. John R. Bush Funeral Home had it's beginning as The Belleville Burial Company, the first funeral service provider in Belleville, established in 1914, by the late Joseph Imlaw.
