I am deeply saddened that Great Aunt Betty was kept hidden away from most of our family for the last decade of her life. She was like a second mother to me. She was such a kind, generous and caring woman - and touched all who knew her. She could be very stubborn and difficult when denying parts of her past, but we love her regardless of what her life story is.
Her nephew, Lloyd Maracle was my father. Our mother, Gloria (Sherwin) Maracle, attended the services, which were moved up last minute to 1:15 on Monday, August 31st, along with myself, my sister, Kim Vincent, and Craig Maracle, our brother.
I will always remember her and Hank's kindness to us through out my childhood; working in the garden together, tilling, weeding, harvesting. She was quick to comfort me when I was sad - something I wasn't terribly accustomed to.
It is especially troubling that her obituary left out her daughter, Gloria Jean Anderson, along with her husband and four children. The obituary needs to be re-written.
Betty didn't belong only to one arm of the family; she will stay forever in the memory of all of those who knew her, those whose lives she has touched, and there are no boundaries to the love we feel, as well, there are no boundaries to our memories, and our wish to honour her now that she has passed on to the next phase of her spirit's journey.
