Obituary for Mary White "May" Wilson (Westwood)

WILSON, Mary (May) White (nee Westwood) - beloved wife of Bill, passed away peacefully with her true love by her side on May 13, 2023. Mother of Janette Clarke (Dave), Marion Wilson, Fiona Wilson (Garth Kay) and Jill Kingston (Chris) and her ‘adopted’ son Dolf DeJong (Trish Chapman). Beloved grandmother of Sasha Campbell (Quinten Hackwood), Bridget Campbell (David Riggs), Amanda Bellemare (Louis) and Elliot Kingston (Sydney Jarvis). Adoring and doting great-grandmother to Lily, Easton, Myles and Evelyn Bellemare and Cameron Kingston-Jarvis.
May was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 12, 1938. She met Bill on his 18th birthday. They were married in 1957 and quickly became a family of six. In 1972 the family moved to Canada to ensure a bright future for their girls.
May ran an in-home day care for many years in the Toronto area. Upon moving out to Brighton after retirement, Bill and May soon became involved in life in the Brighton area. May was an avid birder and spent many hours on Presqu’ile Beach with her scope until her sight diminished. It was through birding she met her dear friend Maureen Riggs. She spent many hours volunteering with Friends of Presqu’ile and baked hundreds (if not thousands) of rum cakes over the years for Christmas at Presqu’ile. She loved spending time with her grandchildren introducing them to her love of nature. May was also an active member of her knitting guild and many cold toes have been warmed with her socks. Family and friends’ babies were greeted into this world with lovely knitted items which became treasured keepsakes.
In the last few years May had struggled with dementia and she and Bill moved into Season’s Retirement Home in Trenton last October where they settled in well and were well cared for. They both enjoyed the lack of daily responsibilities. May passed away peacefully with Bill beside her.
Rest in peace May. You will be so sorely missed.
