Obituary for Joan Marie Bush (Hoard)

BUSH, Joan Marie (nee Hoard) – We are saddened to announce that Grandma Joni passed away on October 6th, 2019 in her 91st year. She was surrounded by her loving family at her home at Hastings Manor. She will be a constant reminder of how love and inclusion are such an important part of everyone’s life. She was a kind, generous person of great strength and determination who readily shared her sense of humour and good sportsmanship to brighten the day of her important family and friends.

Joan was born January 20, 1929, at the Hoard homestead in Rawdon Township, near Stirling. She attended Williams one room School House and boarded in Stirling to attend Stirling High School. As a young girl she enjoyed the outdoors with her horses, dogs, cows and fishing. She trained at Peterborough Normal School for her career as a teacher. She consequently taught at Wellman’s Public School for two years and after marriage, taught three more years at Glen Ross Public School. She married Jack Miller Bush on July 8, l950 at Hoard’s United Church. She and Jack demonstrated their love of family with their six children. She was a bookkeeper for Jack’s business for many years. Like Jack, she was very civic minded and volunteered in the Stirling community. As a member of St. Paul’s United Church, she was very active in the United Church Women’s Group, in the Sunday School and as an Elder. Joan was also involved with the River Valley Women’s Institute at local and district level and also assisted with canvassing with the Heart and Stroke Association in her area. Her other interests which centered around her family included travelling, camping, knitting, quilting, baking, playing cards, gardening and visiting,

Joan is survived by her six children Jane (Ron) Stolz of Kingston, Susan (Ron) Turgeon of Frankford, John (Anne) of Frankford, Robert of Stirling, Douglas (Janet) of Stirling and David (Janice) of Stirling. She was so cherished and will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Kathryn & Breton Fleming, Michael & Gail Bush, Julie & Ryan Newman, Mark & Ashley Turgeon, Alison Stolz, Ryan & Lesley Stolz, Joanna Stolz & Eric Lee, Joshua, Kelsey, Meghan, Shannon, Daniel, Paige and Benjamin Bush, Spencer Lough, Shelby & Ted Taylor, Erica and Heather Corbett. And further, great-grandchildren Nicholas, Thomas, Charles, Baron, Alette, Layla, Rose and Gavin. She is also survived by sister Doris (Allan) Wells and sister-in-law Grace Bush, both of Stirling.

Joan’s service was held at St. Paul’s United Church on Friday, October 11th at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Bruce Fraser officiated. Interment was at Stirling Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul’s United Church, Canadian Diabetes Association or a Charity of your choice would be appreciated.
