Obituary for Irma Alice Carlene Martin (Embury)

MARTIN, Irma Alice Carlene "Irma" - Passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 1st, 2024, one month before her 89th birthday, surrounded by her loving family. Irma was born on April 6, 1935, in Belleville ON, to the late Clarence and Helena Embury. She is predeceased by her sister, Maxine (late Leroy Sills). Irma married her late husband, Lyle Martin 1960 to 2004 (43 years). Together they took great pride in raising four children: Carlene Petherick (Colin), Robert Martin (Charlene McIntee), Darryl Martin (Shelley) and David Martin (Chantal Batt) on the Martin Dairy Farm. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren: Lauren Martin, (Alannah Lymburner), Braedon Martin, late Thomas Martin and late Sasha McIntee. She started her career teaching in a one room school house at the age of 18 after graduating from Normal (Teachers College) in Peterborough. After a career as a school teacher, Irma enjoyed working at the local library, being an active member at The Women’s Institute. She played the piano at Melrose United Church until it closed. She was a member of the Quinte Agricultural Society in the Homecraft Division. She also received many awards from The Quilter’s Guild for her beautiful quilts. She found great enjoyment in her flower garden and was well known for her baking skills. Funeral Service will be held at the RUSHNELL FUNERAL HOME, 80 Highland Ave., Belleville (613-968-5588) on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will take place two hours prior from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Interment at Victoria Cemetery, Plainfield will take place at a later date.
