PETTINGILL, George Arthur
Retired Chief, Fire Department, Prince Edward County -

Peacefully entered into rest at his home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, George Pettingill of R R 8, Picton died at the age of 83. He was the son of the late Arthur & Margaret Pettingill (nee Hall) and was the husband of the late Ruth (nee Reynolds). George was the loving father of Shane, and Sheri Lyons (Jamie) all of Picton and was the dearest grandfather of Chloe Elizabeth, Ryan, Ashley (Cody), Alyssa (Hunter) and Brieanna. He is survived by his brothers Doug (Cathy) of Wellington and Bob (Teresa) of Grand Bend and he was predeceased by his sister Pat Davies and he will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. George will be missed by his special friend and companion Pat.

George was a well-known County figure. He was owner and operator of Prince Edward Collision Services from 1970 to mid 1990s, when he retired to focus on the Fire Department. George's biggest passion was serving on the Fire Department. He started his career as a volunteer in 1979 in Bloomfield, transferred to the Hallowell Department as Deputy Chief in 1981, and became Chief in 1982. Upon amalgamation of the Fire Departments in 1998, he was appointed the first Prince Edward County Fire Chief, until his retirement in 2006. A job he loved. George was also known as a competitive swimmer, dancer, goalie and driver of the #33 race car at Brighton Speedway, where he is a member of their Hall of Fame. He was also an avid Wellington Dukes fan.

The family would like to thank Brad Gunn NP, Bayshore Nurses: Shari, Donita and Angel, caregiver Julie Hutton for their wonderful care. An extra special thank you goes to our cousin, Irene Wilson for her excellent care she provided Dad over the last 4 months. We could not have done this journey without her.
